Complete customisation of a Moodle platform for a national teacher training programme in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, with production, test and staging environments.
The programme had a working but raw Moodle installation. On a platform aimed at teachers spread across the whole country, some of them new to online learning, the default interface was a real obstacle: weak visual hierarchy, an unclear enrolment path, a course catalogue that was hard to browse.
There was an operational constraint on top of that: every change was applied directly to the environment learners were using, with no way to validate it first.
Our work. Multi-institution Moodle platform for the PAAF / FOADE programme in the DRC: learner journeys, content administration and hosting suited to the institutional context.
The platform now presents a consistent visual identity across every journey, from enrolment to reading a course. The three environments make it possible to ship changes without interrupting training in progress, and Moodle updates remain applicable.
The temptation with Moodle is to edit core code directly for a quick result. The cost appears at the first security update, when you have to choose between losing the customisation and staying on a vulnerable version. A child theme avoids that trap.
